troubleshooting

Unit does not power on.

A. Make sure batteries are installed correctly.
B. Check battery level or insert fresh batteries and try again.

The lid stays open and has to be forced closed.

Please make sure nothing is too close to or obstructing the sensor. If it still won’t close, you may need to order a replacement motor.

Opens by itself - especially in the dark - or sometimes sensor does not respond, or has a low range of sensitivity.

Move or clean can. Sensor should be clear of any object at least 20″ at all times. The standby sensing range is about 8″ to 10″. Any moving objects within range or intense lights can trigger the motor.

Lid squeaks when closing.

Apply a small amount of lubricant on movable parts of the hinge and under the metal trim ring.

Lid opens and closes constantly.

Lid opens about an inch and closes, makes clicking sound or may open sometimes but slams on way down.

The clutch may be slipping. You need to order a replacement motor.

Lid opens about 70 degrees sometimes, and 90 degrees at other times.

The first 10 to 20 openings right after power up or power reset are part of the calibration and warm up period. The opening angle will change and eventually will settle down to a high enough angle for dumping trash. Depending on battery level, the initial opening angle may be 70 degrees or lower. It will get higher after a few cycles.

How to clean stainless steel trash cans.

Clean stainless steel weekly with a soft cloth, warm water and a mild detergent. DO NOT use steel wool, stainless steel polisher, bleach, salts or acids as these will damage the product. Or use our microfiber mitt, which just uses water on one side to wash and the other dry side to wipe and polish.

Our stickers should not leave residue, but if this happens, remove using adhesive removers such as “Goo-Gone®”, “Un-du®” or “De-solv-it®”. Be sure to rinse the area with water and dry with a soft cloth.
