Not only is it beautiful, it's just about perfect. Love that there are two receptacles inside so that we can easily divide trash from recycling. My hubby was concerned that the trash can would be too small and the recycling side too big, but we've found them to be just right. The liners that come with SimpleHuman are really nice, but what's even better is that I can use my own liners! No need to throw away the 1,000 pack I recently got from Costco. Also, I love that there's a switch to keep the lid open and a notch that allows the can to stay lifted while I'm pulling out the liner. It's a great can and we've gotten compliments from everyone who has seen and used it!

I read all of the reviews before I purchased my trash can. Sad to say when I received my trash can it looked like it had been used. It was not in a new box. Looked like someone before me used it. Anyway after using it the lid did not work as advertised. The amount of pressure you have to put on the steel pedal in order for the door actuators to kick in is too much. My wife just started to leave the top opened all the time. She was not pleased we called up and tallied with the support rep and the trash can is on its way back to the company. I think at this point we will try another type because we didn't like the steel pedal mechanism. We were told that can has the heaviest hood of all the trash cans so we will move on to another can. Maybe they will do a redesign of the steel can cover. We could not give a better rating. I will give customer support the 5 stars in this case. The trash can gets just 2 stars. It looks great though.

This garbage can is great .I love the the lid closes automatically and the hands free step to open bar works wonderfully. It fits well into my kitchen with the stainless steel. It is very expensive but I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Never thought I would spend so much on a trash can, but I must say I am not disappointed at all. This can does all that it advertises and sure seems like it will hold up for a very long time. If you can afford it then this is a winner!

I got this as a dog pee proof clothes hamper. I like the two bins, one for whites and the other for solids. It works well and is well made. I have a smaller one that i use as a trash can. It looks nice, is functional, and the dogs can't pee on my clothes. How cool is that?

When I first got my trash can it wouldn't sit level on my kitchen floor. Then the lid would not close silently at all. Plops down every time I open it and lets go. But overall the quality of the can is beautiful. Waiting on my replacement.

If so, I'm WRONG! It took me a long time to part ways with the $$ to buy this thing but the moment I unpacked it I knew it was love. It's nice looking (even with a toddler and preschooler in the house), it's large enough to hold our trash and recyclables for a couple of days, and it's quiet. I love that the lid doesn't slam down hard, and it's a bonus that you can't open the lid with your hand because 1) it keeps your hands away from the trash where they shouldn't be anyway, and 2) my "nosy" dog can't lift the lid with his nose and help himself to the treats inside! So, overall, I can't believe I spent so much money on a trashcan but now that I'm over the sticker shock I'm a believer. I don't think I'll ever fall in love with the special trash bags since grocery-bought ones fit well enough (and there's a way to secure them on the back of each canister), but that remains to be seen. Stranger things have happened (like spending a stupid amount on a trashcan and being happy about it).

I was hesitant to spend more than twenty dollars on a garbage can, but this one was worth it. I love that my garbage and recyclables can both fit. It is perfect for anyone who recycles a good bit. It also looks great with stainless steel appliances. Plus, the lid really does keep the odor of the garbage from stinking up the kitchen.

Great can! Especially the ability to place recycling in the same can separate from trash! Door does slam wall if can is placed directly infront of wall with no space. But overall it keeps my dog out of the the trash! Great Can! Love it!

This item was purchased for an office, and immediately I've received compliments on it from most of the employees here. The step bar is substantial and I believe will hold up to use and abuse! Love it!

Okay -- it is CRAZY to spend this much money on a garbage can of all things... but the minute I received my first I ordered a second (and we don't have a ton of money). We do not use the sections. Rather,we use one entire 55 gallon can for garbage, and one for recyclng. My favorite feature is that when you pull the garbage up to change a bag, the inner can kind of sits on a little "shelf" inside the unit making bag changing so easy. And no unpleasant garbage shreds get past the fit of this can liner, whether you use Simple Human bags or your own brand. Finally, smell is reduced with carbon filters. I feel a little gulty for not givng the money to charity... but we're more organized and things are easier to keep clean now. Highly, highly recommended...

It's a bunch of money, but it's worth it in the long run. Everything that you would want in a trash can--rugged, nice-looking, spacious, convenient to use. The finish is actually difficult to soil or mark up!

I'd been eye-balling this receptacle for years, and finally got the courage to spend that kind of money for it. I like it, but it's way over-priced. Plus, the lid NEVER closes softly or slowly. It always plops down. It's OK. But I'm still glad I bought it and I do get compliments on it!

Had my 10 year old tall plastic trash can and just didn't realize how dingy it looked until I pulled it out a house party. Yuck. I moved light years ahead with this beutiful trash can. I don't have a single complaint and have received compliments from guests to my cleaning lady on it. Functions great for my household of 4 as our main trash can. I use the full size bucket for trash and pulled out the 2 smaller buckets for recycling. I don't understand the reviews about the step bar-it functions great-no problems. Love it and well worth the money.

The quality, engineering, design, and durability of this container is without equal. Even so, on the next iteration, I would love to see a mechanism that would slow the lid down as it is almost completely open via pedal-power. Such a mechanism would allow for a strong step onto the pedal without worrying about the lid hitting a wall or counter-top in front of which the container is placed. As it is designed now, one must very carefully place pressure on the pedal so as to not bang the lid into a wall or counter-top behind it, or alternatively place the container at least four inches in front of a wall or counter-top. I would prefer to be able to place the container right up against such rear vertical surface. Nonetheless, I am extremely pleased with this product, and would recommend its purchase without reservation.

Pros: beautiful design, easy to use, great size, any trash bag can work, lock lid in open position, durable, sturdy and nicely made. Con: can't open with your hand and smells bad when in use.

This is our primary trash can. We use the inserts to separate the regular from the recycle tash. Easy to use and keep clean.

My favorite thing is the size! I use it everyday since it serves as the main trashcan in my house. I love the sleek exterior which is always a conversation piece for guests in my home. It is very sturdy, I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old that think the trashcan is a drum however it holds up very well against their curiosity! It is very easy to clean and when the lid is closed you can't even tell you have trash in it! My mother-in-law liked it so much she purchased one the following week! I'm looking forward to purchasing more simple human products in the future!

This trashcan is awesome; stylish and holds lots of trash!! I flip the switch to leave the lid open- it is only my husband and I, so it takes awhile to fill it up (if the lid stays down, it will smell...). The *plus* is that regular trash bags will fit if stretched a little, so you'll save a little $ on bags :-)

It looks really nice in the kitchen that has other Stainless products in it. "pretty trashcan" to most is an oxymoron... but this is really nice and a great addition to our kitchen for years to come. Previous (plastic) trash cans never looked nice enough to "leave out". This is a win win for everyone.

I had a smaller one which was good except family filled it everyday. Moved up to this one. Most i have ever paid for a garbage can but works well, love the step to open, dog can't get into garbage and it should last a long time.

This is a beautiful, solidly constructed, functional trash can. I have bought 7 over the last year, and couldn't rave about it enough. I bought them both for work and home use. None have given me any trouble, though they are heavily used. They are constantly admired by all who see, and use it. People over 300 lbs have sat on it, it's been kicked, and generally abused; and yet has shown no wear. It will hold lots of trash, and of course, you don't have to use the recommended but expensive simplehuman trash bags. Expensive, but well worth its price.

Great looking trash can for both trash and recyclables. The foot pedal is handy and the lid closes softly - doesn't scare our cats, which is a nice product feature.

The size is great. One of the bigger trash cans out there. - Is it well made? (durably constructed) yes and no.. Lets start with the no. The trash can is nice. The foot pedal is solid, but too high to depress and not comfortable. Everything about it seems great, except the fact that the top of the trash can is made up of the thinnest stainless steel I have ever come across. It dents and scratches waaaay too easily. We received one with a few dents and I returned it no problem. Our 2nd one was scratched within a week.. The rest of the trash can seems durable. From the foot pedal to the sides. We frequently put things on top of the can but it scratches really easily.. Don't know why. I own another Simple Human trash can. I have had it for over 5yrs. I treat both trash cans the same. My older trash can, which was over $100 cheaper, seems to be built better. It has never dented and the top is still scratchless. I am goin to have to say that the newer one that I have looks better but is built cheaper. - Does it look nice? It is a work of art.. as long as you keep the dents and scratches off of it.. BEWARE: The top of this trash can is extremely flimsy. It seems like it is hollow, thin or both.. they should have made the top of it with a little bit thicker stainless steel to prevent denting so easily. The foot pedal is uncomfortably high.. you have to lift your foot and bend your ankle too much to get on top of the foot pedal. Our previous can was low and easier to use.. We now use a smaller trash can next to this one because of this.. Our model is: 55 liter / 14.5 gallon steel bar rectangular step can brushed steel sku # CW2003.

Outstanding for our purposes. We use one side for garbage and the other for recycling, and it's a big improvement over what we had before. Handles on the side might help for moving it when you need to clean underneath it.

How can you be in love with a trash can, you might ask??? Well, this is just the best product, very durable, looks beautiful, great size, and my dog can't push it over and scatter trash all over the house. Plus it has a Ten Year Warranty!!! It just can't get any better than that.

In addition to looking quite nice, this can operates wonderfully-the step on mechanism is heavy duty but runs smooth, and opens and closes gracefully, if thats possible with a garbage can!

I was a little hesitant to purchase this due to the price, but I am happy that I did. This container is both stylish and sturdy. I use it to hold both my trash and my recycle items in the kitchen. It holds enough trash for the whole day, which means I empty it by the end of the day. I do need to empty the recycle can whenever I place big recyclable items in it. The construction of the receptacle is well made. It does get occasional fingerprints, but all I do is wet a papertowel and wipe it down removing the prints. Overall, I am happy with this trash/recycle can. It is convenient because it holds everything in one container, sleek looking, and sturdy. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a recycle/trash can.

I'm giving this product 2 stars because it is a very beautiful looking trash can but unfortunately I had to end up giving it 2 stars because the first trash can I ordered arrived to me damaged(the lid would not close and the corner was bent) so I sent it back, the second trash can that was sent was damaged as well( same thing, lid wouldn't close). They didn't offer any sort of discount or any apology whatsoever for all the hassle I had gone through, not to mention surviving almost a month without a trash can. I didn't even want to try for a 3rd trash can and had to cancel my order and go elsewhere. Big waste of time and two trips to ups to end up empty handed. Also its been weeks and I'm still waiting for my refund. Bummer.

This is a well constructed, highly functional, very elegant, strong, clean, and classically designed product that will last a lifetime. Also, it is very appealing to the eye and a beautiful complement to "all" kitchens.

There should be ZERO negative reviews on this thing. It's hands down the best can I've ever owned. So convenient and ultra-sturdy. Love not having to constantly take recycling out.

I hemmed and hawed about buying this trashcan due to the cost. When it finally came I loved it. It is great looking, sleek, easy to operate. I have three young boys who are pretty tough on things. and they have yet to damage it. This product is in our kitchen and used at least 30 times a day. In fact, the inside bins were too small for recycle and garbage for our busy, and apparently hungry, family of five - so I bought another! One for our trash and one for recycle. A great product - I have yet to say I wish I got something cheaper!

I can't believe I am raving about something as common and unexciting as a trash can - but I absolutely love this trash can! It was expensive but I would immediately go out and buy another one if this one were stolen. I have friends who have trash compactors that cost more than this trash can but I would not trade them - and they even comment that they love my trash can. I have never felt inspired to compliment them on their compactor. This trash can is just about perfect!

I wanted a large trash can for my family. Before this we were using a small outdoor type can - my boys create a lot of garbage, but it was very unattractive. Decided to get the largest can I could for the space and this fit the bill. It is amazing how much this holds! It looks great and I've had a couple of comments on how easy it is to use with the foot pedal and how attractive it looks. Only drawbacks are the size bags I need - U. Can only seem to get them online here and I'd like to be able to get them locally to avoid the shipping costs. Also, the odor block doesn't seem to work 100 percent. It didn't take care of onions inside as well as I'd hoped. All in all, though, it's a great looking and working can.

This can is large and looks great. The mechanism that opens and closes the lid is solid and reliable. Be sure to get the liners from the company, as other trash bags are more difficult to fit into the can and around the inner bin without bunching up or falling in. All in all, a great product. The only real complaint is that, if the bin is full of heavy trash, it can be difficult to remove the bin without it catching on the filter compartment that is attached to the inside of the lid. The charcoal filter doesn't seem to do much to kill the garbage smell, so I wouldn't waste my money on them. They were a nice idea, but fairly ineffective.

We are a family of four. I wanted a trash can that could be up against a wall, visible to everyone, but wouldn't be ugly. This trash can does look nice. The foot pedal has a bit of a retro feel. I think it looks stylish but paying this kind of money for a trash can is silly! We use it every day. The main problem we have is that each bin is pretty small (we use one for trash and one for recycle). We have to take the trash out everyday because the bin capacity is small.

My favorite thing about this trash can is everything, from the stylish looks and ease of changing the bags, size, filter and can size. A little on the spendy side but I am glad we bit the bullet and bought it. Very sturdy.

Really like the look and the action of the product. Would give it more stars but it was dented on the side when I received it and I had already thrown away the packaging when I noticed. Tried to bang it out but it is one tough cookie so never going to be perfect. Shame because other than this it's a great product.

A trash can may be a trash can, but this one actually gains the attention of every guest that enters my kitchen. They always ask me where I got it from and how much it cost. I am a bit embarrassed to admit it cost so much, but no one has ever been surprised. They all say that it makes the kitchen complete and that anything else would cheapen the rest of the new cabinets, countertop, and appliances. Overall, I am pleased with the purchase and would recommend it to anyone out there.

eI use this step can at least 20 times a day. I love the fact that it is a soft close and does not slam shut. I also love that it does not leave fingerprint marks when I touch it. A nice feature is the fact that I can lock the lid upright when it is time to empty the containers. I use the two smaller containers, one for recycle one for trash. I highly recommend this step can, it is wonderful!

Well made and designed trash can, very well engineered. Easy to open, keep open and change bags. Possible areas for improvement would be to make the lid of a thicker gauge metal (lid dents somewhat easily) and make the inner can more universal as far as accepting standard size trash bags. The Simple Human "U" size trash bags work great, but they are comparatively expensive and not so easy to get (I have yet to find a retailer that stocks them). Also, SH bags in this size are only available as a 20 pack, which really does not last very long in daily use, especially since other bags don't work effectively in this can. Overall a great product, especially if SH bags are used.

as an engineer with a design fetish i was skeptical of this trashcan until i started using it. in the past six months i have convinced my wife that it was worth it and we have wow'ed several guests. many of them were amazed at the design features as well as the appearance and usefullness. i expect it will outpreform my expectations and be a part of our kitchen for at least ten years, hopefully more.

Extremely well made! No smell due to the fantastic filter system. Easy to change the bags. It looks beautiful - constantly getting compliments. It was hard for me to justify spending that much - but I have absolutely NO regrets!

Worth every penny. We love having trash on one side and recycling on the other. I always wonder why people will spend the same amount on a pair of shoes they wear once a week or so and balk at spending the same amount on a decent trash can they use all day long every day. We have had this for for quite awhile and still looks great. Heavy base so no having to worry about the trashcan tipping over when emptying kitchen scraps into it. Heavy duty foot pedestal for opening - not worried about it breaking any time soon. If you want a trash can that makes life easier - this is the one.

This is a beautiful trash can (as trash cans go) that is VERY well constructed. The only thing we're not thrilled with is the size of the internal containers: We use the dual containers (one for recycling), and my wife would prefer that they were larger/held more. Probably would be fine if they occupied the entire trash can, rather than sit "inside" the single-container liner. Simplehuman could simply offer full-size dual liners as a purchasable option. Other than that, it's terrific -- and the odor-killer thingies that come with the trash can are excellent, too. We have a German Shepherd dog who is an expert at getting into trash cans, but she can't get into THIS trash can; it is fully dog proof.

This product is well made. I like the soft close feature and the stay open latch. It was expensive, but worth it in looks and functionality.

You will not be disappointed with this can....I bought a second one as a gift for my parents. Pretty lame to give a trash can as a gift but it is just that good.

This can looks great, and functions nicely. It closes quietly, doesn't slam open, and the bar works well. It locks open easily. I use it for both recycling and trash at the same time, the bins are small and require emptying more often for obvious reasons. For some perspective it will accommodate a few gallon milk jugs at the same time.
