Trash can looks great and functions great as well. Would like to see the recycle side a little larger.

This beautiful trash can conceals trash in the most awesome way . . . the lid closes slowly (as to not catch little fingers), and it holds a LOT of trash! With the separate recycle bin, I have everything I need within this beautiful exterior!

Looks great. Use it all the time. Size is plenty big, only have to empty it every 3 or 4 days.

I like this trash can a lot. And there are not a lot on the market that serve this purpose as well. The only thing I would like better is if the recycle side were as large as the trash side since my family makes an equal amount of both kinds of discard.

Never thought I could be so excited about a trash can! But this one looks great works well and is very convenient. The bins are a little small but for me and my 2 girls I still only take out trash and recycling once a week or so. My only complaint is that the recycling bin liner is not recyclable which seems a little silly so I gave this only 4 stars.

Looked high and low for a combination can that would fit in a specific space. Finally found it! LOVE it! Perfectly matched sizes for recycle and garbage. Only two things that could make it better would be a way to keep garbage liners from 'billowing' out the top/sides(tried garbage rubberbands - no dice; needs an actual indent in the plastic liner); and a way to keep the top from smacking against the wall.

Fits perfect next to island in the kitchen. Holds more than enough. Very durably, lid closes slowly so you dont have to try and slam the lid down on other types

As with all Simplehuman products this one is well designed and well built. The containers, however, are very small, particularly the recyclilng. Also, it is very hard to get the cans out to change the bags.

This product is great...getting it was a different story, the first one was dented. The customer service rep said she would call me back with a pick up date. I called back 12 days later...the second customer service rep was VERY helpful she got me a new trash can right away and supplied me with trash bags for the inconvenience - however they were the wrong size...but I make them fit :) The product is great I love having the combo and service is good all in all.

Our dog kept tipping our trash can over, which caused us to shop for a more secure trash can. I love the combination trash/recycle bin, and since it's not motion activated, our dog can't active the lid up. I have no complaints and love our purchase.

My rectangular trash can arrived in perfect condition. It looks very sleek and modern, I had measured my space prior to purchasing so it fits perfectly in my apartment kitchen. The product is used everyday and so far has performed beautifully. It is the perfect size for a small family. The two compartments work very well for regular trash and recycling. The can closes silently. The product is very well made and I am hoping that it will last for years to come. I am very pleased with this purchase and would highly recommend this item.

I love this can because it blends well with the decor of my kitchen. It is very durable, cleans easily and the 10 year warranty lets me know that the company stands behind this well made product. Some of the other companies I looked at had only 90 day or 1 year warranties! I am an avid recycler and this can is in use constantly during the day. In fact, I use the large side for plastic and metal recyclables and the smaller side for garbage. I do wish it were a bit larger, but so far for our family of 4(+), it is adequate. PS The (+) means revolving college age children.

I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but before getting this recycler I would have considered my old garbage cans the most frustrating things I had to deal with on a frequent basis, and the only thing I owned that I truly hated. That said, this guy has honestly made my life appreciably better. No more wrestling to get bags out of canisters with sharp lips on them, torn bags, and general miserableness. I know that if it's in the canister, it will also be able to come out without drama. The only thing I wish is that the recycler was about 2" wider, but that's not a big deal.

Looks nice and foot pedal works well. We use it every day and it needs to be emptied every day due to small size. Trash and Recycle containers cracked within the 1st 6 months. This is probably due to needing to empty every day but was unexpected with the high price.

I bought this trash can largely for its looks, and because I know that Simple Human offers quality products that aren't designed to break in a few months (unlike the competition). I've been very happy with the product-it resists fingerprints, matches my kitchen appliances, and I love the fact that it takes care of both my trash and recycling. I would definitely recommend it. I really like the innovative and attractive design of the trash/recycler. It is compact and has removable compartments for ease of use and cleaning. Having a baby granddaughter, I love how the lid closes gently.

I wondered if the compartments would be big enough, but they are just the right size. We had several people ask about it and told us how nice it looks. It is very useful and compliments our newly remodeled kitchen. I'm very very satisfied with it.

The can is a good size, allowing for a dual recycling/refuse option. Only big complaint is that it's very noisy when the lid is closing.

There is very little not to like about this product. The construction is robust and the quality of materials is excellent. The stainless finish is amazing, it never shows fingerprints and cleans easily. The foot pedal mechanism works great, although if I had one complaint it would be that if the can is against a wall, the lid smacks the wall unless you are very careful pressing the pedal. I Might suggest some sort of mechanical limiter in the mechanism to keep the lid from going past vertical. I initially cringed at the price but now after many months of use, I would not hesitate to pony up again.

I like the fact that this can consolidates both my trash & recycling - I previously had to have two cans to get that done. I do wish that the recycling side was a little larger though. The slow-close top is a nice feature especially with kids.

Nice to have only one pail in my small kitchen that holds trash and recycle. No more box on top of my limited countertop to hold the recycle.

it is convient for both things at the same time. I use it everyday. The size is fine for me as a single person. So far it appears well made. However, I don't wrecklessly abuse my property so it appears to last maybe longer than someone who may. The sleak look fit into my kitchen decor very well.

This is an excellent garbage/recycling can! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a sleek, stylish place to toss your garbage. The bins are the perfect size if you don't go through a ton of trash. The only downside (so far) is that the bins do not take standard size garbage bags. You can purchase specially sized bags from SimpleHuman, but they can be pricey. Obviously larger bags work, but there is a lot of wasted plastic. And yes, you can go without a bag and just use the bins, but I wouldn't recommend it. Overall, this has been an excellent purchase! Buy it! Buy it now!

I was afraid to tell my husband how much we spent on this trash can, BUT if you can get over the price it looks classy, has a smooth hinge, and is perfect for separating out our garbage from recyclables. The cheaper trash cans just don't compare. This is well made inside and out.

Fantastic all around. I use both sides for recycling; different things. The smaller side fills up quickly due to how narrow it is, but is still a very good unit. Only issue; the stickers mounted when you buy it have an adhesive that's difficult to fully remove; there's still a bit of gum stuck to mine after trying to clean it many times.

I really love this can. Especially the self closing lid. The only down side is I wish the recycling side was bigger. Hard to put things like milk cartons or juice bottles. I would rather have a wider can with equal sides for garbage and recycle. Also the bag sizes are not really carried in any retailer near me.

I love this trash can. The size and shape are perfect for my small kitchen, and it is sleek and elegant. I don't use it for recycling, because the recycling side is far too small for my needs. Instead, I use the smaller side, with a compostable bag, for my compost. It's the perfect size for that use. I would definitely recommend this product to friends.

Perfectly sized, very convenient, love the sloooow lid closing. I don't buy the simplehuman liners that are made for it, as those are pretty costly compared to store brands, but regular tall kitchen bags fit great in the larger can.

This trash can is great. It looks attractive, I love the foot pedal opening mechanism and quiet close feature. We have more recycling than trash so we use the larger of the two sides to collect our recycling and the small size is perfect for garbage. Seems durable. We've had it for several months with no issues. I never thought I'd "love" a garbage can, but I love this one.

This trash can fits perfectly into the recessed space we had available in our small vacation home. We'd like a little larger recycling side, but for the space available this is a compromise we can live with. The lid and foot lifter work well. Everybody loves the slow closing, and it looks great with our stainless appliances.

Attractive, operates smoothly. Only one complaint/suggestion: I wish the bags were made of the newer type of bio-degradable plastic.

Put price aside and this is truly an excellent product. The finish is durable and does resist (although not completely eliminate) fringerprints and streaks. As much as you might not expect "features" from your trashcan, this actually has several useful ones: Slow close lid for cramming last minute garbage in, an open lid prop to keep it open when needed, hidden wheels to help move it around, rubber feet to prevent scratching your hardwood floors, bag grabs to help keep bags from slipping off, and of course the dual bin feature which is probably why you're buying this to begin with. Two complaints: 1) Like many simplehuman products with slow-close lids, mine developed a loud and annoying "bwahhhh" noise on close after a couple months. Apparently this is a defect in the air canister they use, a call to simplehuman and they sent me a fixed replacement at no charge. Replacing it was relatively easy. 2) This is enormously expensive for a product that holds your trash. The day someone else decides to build a stainless steel trashcan at a reasonable price simplehuman will have to cut their prices in half to compete. But until then, your choices are overpaying for this or buying something with substantially lower quality and looks. I would buy again, but I would be much more thrilled if they didn't gouge on price.

Looks good after months of use, holds more than I expected for its size, nicely constructed, bins pull in and out smoothly. The only flaw is that the specially made liners are expensive, but they really do fit much better than a standard trash bag.

We've had this trash can for a few months now, and it's exactly what we needed. We use the bigger, black liner for our recycling (fewer trips to the big bins in the garage!) and the smaller blue side for trash. The lid operates very smoothly, the bins fit inside perfectly and the outer surface is easy to keep clean. The overall size is great, it fits at the end of my kitchen island and doesn't impede the flow of traffic through the kitchen. It looks great, very clean and modern. My only complaint would be the small dent that was in the lid when I unboxed it, but chances are we'll add a few ourselves over the next few years, so I decided it wasn't bad enough to return the trash can.

I love this trash can. It neatly organizes my trash and recycling and is very nice to look at. It works best if you use the simplehuman trash bags though, because of the shape and size of the bins.

This is a very attractive and functional trash can. We were used to a trash compactor and wanted to find something that would not look like an eye sore plus be able to sort recyclables at the same time. I actually have received complements on this trash can! This size is not too small or too large and fits nicely at the end of the counter. It is solidly built and easy to keep clean. Regular size kitchen garbage bags can be used also with this.

I did not think that I could rave about a garbage can, but I sure want to recommend this one. It looks nice on the outside and is easy to clean. The lid lowers slowly and does not make the usual banging sound. There is even extra protection by the foot pedal to protect the can. It is the perfect size. Even with daily use, this trash can will serve our needs for a long time.

when downsizing into apartment i needed a sleek stylish trash/recycle container for the kitchen. simplehuman had a perfect solution. a single top rising offering offering easy use & decision making of "where to toss what" at once. (our paper products go on a similar sized 12 bottle wine cooler!) minimal time to recycle; minimum space used; maximum compliments. (holds way more than you think.)

Good trash can but would be better if it was easier to install the trash bags.

It's our main trash can and it really is sturdy. Only problem is the slow release lid means that my dog has time to stick his head in and grab a piece of trash before it closes! It would be great if it closed a little faster. The recylce side is too small so we just use both sides for regular trash and use it as a large trash can.

this is a great trash can. it opens and closes smoothly and silently. having the two bins in one can is a great feature. i only wish that the bins were larger....may serve as a great size for someone living alone or a couple (not a fmaily of 4....it's constantly full). but definitely great quality item.

Ok, after 21 years of marriage, purchasing every different type of trash can for my kitchen, I finally bit the bullet and invested in the simplehuman deluxe rectangular recycler! WOW!!! I love the ease of use, the clean, simple lines and the fact that I can finally separate my trash inside my kitchen! I even have by 3 teenage sons & husband putting the recyclables in the bin versus on my counter! PROGRESS! The only thing I would change on this is to make the smaller side a little bigger. I have switched the recycling side to the larger side on occasion but all in all I absolutely LOVE it! It is worth the expense when you figure I have spent that amount on all the junkie ones over the years! Thanks simplehuman!

This is a great space saver and makes it easy to recycle. The only thing is that I tend to recycle more than I trash, so I may use the larger bin for recycling. This bin is sturdy, works well, and I have had no issues. Easy to clean too. I recommend it!

Our family loves the stylish and eco-friendly dual recycler! The kids like being able to separate trash from recyclables and we went from recycling very little to recycling as much as we can. Was worried at first about the size but we find that both sides are adequate. For a family of four we usually have to take out the garbage side every two days and the recycling side about every 5 days. And we love that it slowly lowers the lid on its own without any noise. You can step on the pedal, drop your item(s) and walk away while it quietly closes. It is good size but would love an even bigger version.

This is the best trash/recycle can for a single person household. It holds a week of trash easily and the recycle bin easily empties into my recycle tub about twice a week. A good value for the money although it could be a little larger.

Imagine yourself: you don't write a review for trash can, right? But I'm writing this because I really like it. It's pretty neat. I used not to care how the trash can's lid closes. But after I got this, other trash can in bath room started to annoy me because its lid slams always, which is obviously not from SImpleHuman.

What a fantastic idea! a nice sleak trash can for the kitchen that llows me to share the task in presorting the household waste.Of course it doesn't have a huge capacity but thats what I like about it. Its clean, sharp and fits well in an open style kitchen as its not an obscene piece of furniture but serves its purpose well. With the presorting (paper, plastic, cans) done in the house it makes the weekly task in the garage bins wick and simple. Oh and lets not overlook the worksmanship! This thing is solid, quite, and sturdy. Though I do have to say I am a bit embarassed to tell people what I spent on a "trash can" - so I don't! But I am happy to point them to the website that had quick shipping and a great product!

My friends give me crap, because I live alone, how much trash recycling can one woman make? Excellent all-around for our small kitchen. The best added features are the bag-tuck and silent lid shutting. The square bucket cuts down on the trash bag clinging/suctioning to the can.

I guess I was a little misled by the pictures. I thought the bins were much bigger. That aside, the can itself is really great! The slow closing lid makes it nice to avoid pinches. The little lock has been nice for putting in multiple items. The ease of taking cans in and out are also nice. My only complaint is that it needs to be about twice as big! The recycle can hardly holds anything and the trash bin is really more like an office paper bin. I had to keep my old can and simply added this can as recycle bin only. Design and quality are better than promised, but size is lacking! I would recommend this to a single person or a couple, but not enough for a family.

My husband saw this online and suggested we replace our bullet-shaped push-door trash can, which was inconvenient, door tended to get dirty etc. I was as as rapturous as many other reviewers when we got this product. The recyclables section is a little small, but changing it more often was no big deal. A couple of weeks after getting the can it started making a noise while closing, sort of like a trombone or tuba. It got louder. We contacted Simple Human and they *immediately* sent a new part, which fixed the problem. They also asked for the date on the bottom, which I couldn't seem to find, but led me to believe this might have been an issue with one shipment that has now been fixed. It looks great, is easy to clean, and there is a hole in each of the two inserts that allows you to pull one corner of a kitchen can-sized bag through so you can fit it snugly. Ingenious!

I'd literally been looking at the simplehuman line for years. I first noticed them in a well-known retailer and initially thought the shape of the kitchen model would be perfect for our pantry. However, then I noticed the price and I distinctly remember saying, “Who would pay THAT much for a trash can!” Now, I get it. So we used a cheaper step-lid plastic model we obtained at a big box store until the lid broke – then we replaced it with our first 'automatic' from the same store. Problem was however the 'auto-opening lid' only auto-opened once out of every 5 attempts to trigger. After tolerating this for about 9 months (beats me), and keeping one eye out for a replacement while never quite finding what we wanted, I finally broke down and checked out the simplehuman selection online. The Deluxe Rectangular has filled the bill perfectly now for about 3 months. We have a clean, functioning trash and recycling appliance that doesn't 'bang' when the lid comes down, and that enabled us to get rid of the drippy, unsightly, hanging grocery-store plastic bag we were using in the pantry to place our cans and cardboard as an intermediate step to the bins in the garage. Its easy to clean (just wipe with some stainless steel cleaner 'baby-wipes') and its like new, and easy to replace bags, thanks to simple and brilliant design elements. Once more: Now, we get it.

Excellent trash can but wicked expensive. I recommend switching and using the smaller side for trash since the recycling fills up so fast. As for any product developers who may be reading, how about a trash can with another small compartment for compost? Can we do something about the trash smell... maybe with enzymes (since the lid takes so long to close, although it is perfectly silent as promised).

It is so hard to find a trash can that does both trash and recycle with good size bins. This product does the job perfectly. The soft close mechanism is great. Well worth the $$$

We are very happy with our double recycler trash can. It is so nice not to have piles of recycling on the counter. I am still working on getting the bags to fit flat, but it gets better every time we change them out.

This trash can did exactly what I needed it to do -- got the empty cans/bottles/boxes that were destined for the recycle bin off of my kitchen counter. And for that, I am eternally pleased! We actually use the larger bin for our recycle items and the smaller bin for our trash. Things I like: it's quiet (no noisy lid!) and it's a decent overall size (for two bins). Things I don't like: it was a little pricey; I wish the two bins were the same size. Overall, a good buy if you are looking for a single spot for trash and recycle items.

After years of cheap trash cans in the kitchen, I decided to go for the best, and I'm really glad I did. The can did arrive with a small dent, but I don't even notice it. The can is easy to clean, and the dog can't get the trash any more! As we also compost, we recycle more than we throw away, so the small compartment is for trash, the lg for recycling.

I was looking for a can that could hold both trash and recyclables so that we didn't have to have 2 cans out. I wanted something nice and streamlined as we had just remodeled, This fit perfectly. At first I was afraid it might be on the small side but it is working out just fine. The only problem I have is that I would like to see blue recycle bags for the recycle bin.

I waited to buy the rectangular recycler as it was expensive but am I ever glad I bought it. I'm a organizer & I hated the recycle sitting on the floor or counter. I love that the lid stays open giving me time to dump, the sleek design, plenty of room for garbage & recycle.

This is a good product, but it's not worth $180. I love the concept, the function and space saving. However, it's way overpriced for the quality of the product. It's not poor quality, it's just not what I expected for $180. I don't think I would purchase again...not at that price.

Makes it easy to recycle but I do wish the recycle portion was larger it fills up really quickly.....I may even try swapping out the bins and using the bigger one for recycling.

Love it! The lid insets into the can so my dog can't lift it and pull stuff out of the garbage. Hopefully he does not figure out how to use the step. We actually use the large side for recycling and the small side for whatever cannot be recycled.

My recyclables take up more space so I use the large side for that function. As well, I remove my refuse from the house daily, so the small side works, too.

It's great - easy to keep clean, and I like the combined recycling and trash unit. The slow closing lid is great - never slams or bangs - as is the little thing that lets you keep the lid open when you need it. Just thoughtful. Only problem is I generate more recycling than trash, or at least even - I wish the blue bin was bigger and the black bin was smaller. Once LA gets municipal composting and my trash volume gets even smaller, I will switch and use the blue side for trash and the black one for recycling. Anyway we've had it for a few months and I wish I'd purchased it years ago.

It has the perfect fit for my kitchen along with the perfect look, the recycler saves steps out to the garage. I can't say enough how happy I am.

I would recommend this to a friend, but most of my friends have families and this trash can is a bit too small for family use. We tend to have to empty it somewhat daily, which is doable, but then my other frustration is that the trash bags we have don't fit the can properly. Disclaimer: we didn't get the simplehuman bags due to cost. What I do love about the can is that my unsightly recyclables are tucked away. I wish the question was, "would you recommend this to a single friend or family household?" because I love the idea of this trashcan, but the bags and the size do frustrate me!

I loved the product. However, the only issue would be a bigger bin for trash.

This is a great trash/recycle can, even though it's fairly pricey. The buckets are easy to use/wash and the lid, when closing, is extremely quiet. It's design is nice and sturdy, resting flush against the wall. The only drawback is bags. We used our normal Glad bags and they don't fit as well as SH's bags, which are provided with the can. I assume those bags can be purchased locally or from the site. Otherwise, we're really happy with this purchase. It's definitely cleaned up the recycling clutter that we accumulated before the can arrived. I just wish the recyle part was a little larger or as large as the trash part.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I use one side for trash & the other side for recycling. It is extremely well designed and constructed. The finish on the stainless steel shows no fingerprints and requires NO MAINTENANCE in order to look just like the day I got it. I just wish it were easier to find the special sized bags--but 13 gallon bags (available everywhere) work just fine too.

At first we thought the unit was just going to be to big but it has grown into its space. Having both garbage and recycables out of site is great!! Wish the recycle side was a tad bigger but it will do. I've already suggested it to two other home owners.

I reviewed many items on the simple human website and this product perfectly suits my needs. It fits in with my kithcen re-model, and I enjoy the handy garbage/recycle in the same container. The recycle portion is a bit smaller than expected, yet it still accommodates my needs.

the recycler side's capacity seems too low. if you truly sort and recycle your trash, paper, bottles, plastics, etc. you should end up with at least the same amount of recycle items as plain trash items. thus having the smaller recycle side ratio turns out to quite limiting. the build quality though, is quite good.

This recycle can is such a great idea. For years, we've been throwing all of our paper, cans, etc. in the same trash can (a single Simplehuman can) and have had to separate all of it by hand each week to put out with the trash. The new recycle can looks great with the stainless finish in the kitchen and now recycling is SO MUCH EASIER!!! Instead of a time consuming and 'icky' chore, taking out the recycling items is a snap! Highly recommend this product - it has really made my life much more 'simple'!

Looks great, eliminates need for separate recycling can. Closes very quietly.

It is an excellent product, however, my lid may be slightly bent since it doesn't close fully on both sides.

I didn't know a trash can could bring such happiness to my home. No more stooping over to lift the lid to my little galvanized trash can. My life is now more complete than I ever imagined. Why didn't I buy it earlier? Plus it looks great.

The unit is very well made, operates well, especially the slow closing lid, a nice quiet feature. The trash side is adequate for garbage as we like to empty often with kitchen waste. The recycle section is also adequate unless you have a lot of beer drinking guests, so Steeler season may be a problem (but just use the empty beer case)! My only disappointment was the unit arrived dented on the side, but I was able to "pop" out and since our unit was fitting into a recessed area, it worked out fine and was easier than sending back.

we needed a recycling receptacle that would look good in our open design kitchen and i was reluctant to buy plastic bins. we already own a rectangular simplehuman trash can that we love so i was excited to find that i could match it with this recycling bin. the containers are easy to remove from the bin and the delayed closing feature on the lid prevents our cruising baby from getting her fingers slammed. we are using this to separate paper and plastic/aluminum/glass and it works very nicely. i highly recommend simplehuman products - not only for the quality of the items but for the amazing customer service!

I love this trash can. I've never been excited about a trash can before but this one did it. We're required to recycle where we live and this makes it so easy. We actually put the recyclables in the large bin and trash in the smaller one b/c we recycle so much now. It's great. I wish I had one for my home office upstairs and not just my kitchen.

We have found this can to be too small for our liking. The recycling bin is so small that rather than empty the recycling bin daily, we are using the whole thing for recycling and are still using the old white plastic can for trash. Like a lot of committed recyclers and composters, we create as much recycling as we do trash. I looked for larger cans before purchasing this one, but it was the largest of its kind that I could find. What would work better for us would be something with a 3rd bin, similar in size to the larger bin. The two large bins would be used for trash and container recycling, with the small bin used for paper recycling.

Great solution for those who want to recycle but have lmited spcae. We live in an apartment and don't have room for several trash cans. This is not only practical but sturdy and the lid is very quiet.

I love the ability to put trash and recycle items in the same can. I use the larger side for recycling and the smaller side for trash. Before this can, soda cans were left on the counter until someone took them outside for recycling.

I'd been looking for a nice trash can for our kitchen that incorporates a recycling bin. This one is perfect, and looks really great. I love how the lid lowers slowly, so it doesn't slam down.
