I love this trash can...even purchased the electric adapter to avoid using batteries. I've only had it about two months and already it doesn't open. I have to use a butter knife to lift the lid!! Has anyone else had this problem? I unplugged the unit and turned it off for a while to reset, still doesn't work. For this price it should not have this issue already!!

I loved the trash can while it worked, however, after 2 years I have to use a knife or other sharp object to open it. A trash can costing $200 should work for more than two years. I am going to purchase another one and hopefully it will work longer than 2 years.

Overall it is a very good trash can.

We had a smaller simplehuman trash can that we opened with a foot pedal. It seemed like the pedal was always on the opposite side I was! My new simplehuman opens on it owns, and sometimes scares us as we are walking by, but it is fantastic! I love it and it doesn't make any difference where I am, I can open it with ease.

The Simplehuman Sensor Can is the best kitchen trash can. Our Grandkids now all want to throw away the trash. The can looks great, easy to clean, and the bags are easy to change out. I would definitely recommend the Simplehuman Sensor can to our friends and family.

This trashcan is perfect for our kitchen space- it does not take up much room yet provides more than enough volume for a week's worth of garbage. It is also great at eliminating odors! I love that I do not have to touch the trashcan and I don't get food and germs all over the lid and outside. I use it with the power adapter and feel like it is a well-made piece that will last years.

I love it, but it opens everytime someone walks by it. I thought it had a smart chip that would help it learn that we are just walking by but it hasnt learned a thing. Im arfraid its going to wear out cause it opens so often just from walking by.

The trash can is great, just wish the sensitivity point of when it opens could be adjusted, then I would give it 5 stars. The size is great, well made, and looks great. It's a trash can so I use it all the time and it's there just waiting for me so it can open.

The sensor can broke after using it for 3 months. Whenever I move for it to open, the lid gets stuck in the "down" position and I have to use a knife to open it. When I fix it (by using the knife as a fulcrum) and the lid moves up like it should, once it closes, the can will again fail when I ask it to open. Not sure why this happened, but this can does not work and I'm very disappointed with it. I hope SimpleHuman will contact me about it. I'd like to order more products from them (I own 4 products of theirs, 2 of which have broken), but have begun losing my patience. My oder number was: simplehuman-306947

I really like that I don't have to take the inside plastic container all the way out of the trash can to change the bags. The trash can looks very modern, and I like how the lid stays open longer. Very durable, and so easy to be used by small children. The only draw back is that it's very slow for the lid to open, and pretty noisy.

This sensor can makse getting rid of trash effortless. The can works especially well when your hands are full. It does not work well near a counter however, because the lid bangs the edge of the countertop before fully opening. Also not ideal in small spaces. The lid will open automatically if you walk too close to it. Othrwise this is a great product.

We are having trouble with the unit not opening. It tries to but does not work until you power cycle it 4 or 5 times. Does not happen every-time, but at least 2 or 3 times a day. VERY ANNOYING !!

This can is well engineered. Exactly what I was looking for.

We didn't like how slow it opens and doesn't stay open long enough...It is not opening at all at the moment. Replaced batteries, but that didn't work either. I am going to send it back this week, but not an easy item to ship.

Sensor can looks great and functions very well. Did spook my Labrador the first time he walked by and the lid opened :-)

The unit looks nice and is easy to clean. However, the lid often gets stuck in the closed position and as of yet, we still haven't figured out why. We know its not the batteries or the sensor. I would recommend waiting to buy until the "bugs" are worked out.

I use this in the kitchen all day long. Size is Great - better than regular can. Looks good, sound construction. Recently it began not opening all the time. I changed the batteries - but its still sticking sometime. I have to find the manual to see if I can fix. Very expensive trashcan - but great if your hands are full and/or scraping dishes - was great at holidays

My trash can is 4 months old. the senosr has stopped working with any reliability. When you waive your hand over the sensor, the lid makes one click and it doesn't open. It will also freeze in the open position. I have changed the batteries this week and it didn't help. I wantit replaced according to the warranty.

My husband and I bought two of these trash cans -- one for garbage, one for recycling -- and now we can't imagine our kitchen without them. We call them the "Samantha Cans" because the no-touch feature mimics something you might have seen on "Bewitched". In fact, in the beginning, we fought over who got to throw something away because it was so cool to watch the lid slide open and then watch it close again, all without a single touch. Makes it nice when our hands are full. The lids stay open long enough to throw away the immediate objects, but it knows when to stay open longer too, for those items that require a little extra attention. The size of this can is perfect for our two-person household. We only have to empty them once a week and, even then, they're not always full. These cans are highest quality, stainless steel. What's nice is I don't have to clean them all the time, only dust them, because garbage goo doesn't get all over the outside. They are incredibly sleek and would fit the most contemporary spaces to the most traditional. Our kitchen is "French Country" and these cans seem right at home.

We LOVE it...you can keep the cover up during everyday use..use the automatic part when company comes. The size is perfect ..holds a lot, yet not to big,heavy to pull out! Perfect for me, easy for my handicapped husband and also our 4 year old granddaughter!

The vents along the sides allow a seamless up-pull of the bag without the restriction of the vacuum frustration of multiple pulls. Plus, it's cool. Neighbours are ogling.

I read about this trashcan a few weeks ago and I was at first a bit put off by the price. But then one morning I looked at my dirty, ugly, plastic trashcan and I knew that I needed a new one. I wanted a nice stainless-steel trashcan and when I started looking at the prices of good trashcans, I saw that they were only slightly cheaper than this one, so I decided to go for it and try it. We have now lived with the Sensor Can for about a month and we cannot imagine not having it around. The good: - Very good build quality, it's solid and obviously made to last. - Being sensor-activated means that you will never have to touch it, so it is less likely to become dirty and contaminated. - If you are taking a long throwing something away, it goes into a 30-second mode. - It is fingerprint-proof. - Any trash bag will work, so you can use any regular store-bought bags and the liner will remain hidden inside. - It has a small pedestal inside so that you can use to lift the bucket to replace the trash bag without having to fully remove the bucket out of the trashcan. - Supposedly, the batteries will last a full year. The bad: - Let's be honest, it's a lot of money for a trashcan (but worth it in my opinion) and yet it doesn't come with batteries. - The sensor is a bit slow to react when it's closing and you want it to re-open because it's closing (sometimes you have something else to go get and throw away.) - Guests will have to ask "how do you open it?" The pros more than outweigh the cons. If you are in the market for a quality stainless-steel trashcan, you should seriously consider this one.

I love the look of it, the size, the quietness. It's just spectacular! My hubby has his big screen tv but I have my high-tech trash can!
