I am pleased with the styling, appearance, form and function of the can. It is a perfect solution for the tight corner I have placed it in. It can open completely without making contact with surrounding surfaces. My only complaint is the non-standard bin size forces me to buy Simplehuman's proprietary liners. Standard liners don't fit properly.

I have never spent so much for a trash can but after biting the bullet I can honestly say I am happy I did. I needed a specific size to fit under the counter, with a foot pedal, attractive and quality materials. This can fits all of that and more the only complaint from my son is he wishes I ordered a larger one so he wouldn't have to take the trash out as often. Completely satisfied and glad to take another reviewer's JUST BUY IT advice.

I did a lot of research before selecting this trash can. I was looking for one that was "dog proof". This one is not, but only because our dog is big and clever enough to open it the same way we do. It's held up well in the face of regular assaults by the dog. It remains in great condition, mechanically and cosmetically. It's a well-designed, well-engineered product, and I'm very happy with it. I'd have given it 5 stars, but only gave it four because it's not completely impervious to the dog.

We have a 50+lb dog that likes to eat anything and everything. This trash can keeps anything and everything out of her sneaky snout. It's also the perfect size for two who love to cook!

Thanks to the detailed information on the website, it fits perfectly in the space I bought it for. I have wanted one of these trash cans for ages but always put it off because it seems like a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a trash can. And it is... but these are worth it. I really like the butterfly opening. You don't get the heavy swing of the larger lids (tried at friends house). The mechanism is very quiet. It doesn't bother me to open it like I thought it would and for longer jobs the stay open feature is convenient. It does a great job keeping the smells in. Recommend!

I was weary about spending this kind of money on a trash can. It is well worth it. After trying several versions, I think this model is the best model they make. The lid flaps are a small area of material and the stainless steel is thin enough to make the lid very easy to open via the foot pedal. The larger lid models, particularly with a longer opening radii are awkward to open - require a lot of force and/or do not close cleanly. This one makes no noise; completely smooth closing. Clean, elegant aesthetic. Easy to clean inside & out. I don't use the simplehuman bags - if you pay attention when changing it you can fit any bag neatly tucked around the inner bin. The big problem they had previously was the impossible-to-clean outside finish. Also, once the slow-close mechanism starts to go there is no real way to fix or replace it. My last bin (of the same model) lasted 5 years before a slight squeak developed. For a residential grade trash-bin 5 years is brilliant. I only replaced it because I wanted the upgraded version. For those whom are less particular, this thing could last a lifetime.

I didn't know I could love a trash can so much! We use this everyday in our kitchen. The size is perfect (we have it next to our counter and the slim width fits perfectly). It's not only beautiful, but has lots of extra features like a small hole to ensure trash bags are tight around the rim and an option to leave the top open without stepping on the pedal. While the price is expensive for a trash can, it really is an investment piece. I plan on using this for years to come. It's a truly great product!

This trash can is great. It is well made like our other simplehuman trash can and it makes our intelligent dog unable to open it and search for food scraps!

The thing I like best about this handsome item is that it fits comfortably below our counter top. Other cans had geometries and limitations that allowed the top to smack our counter top or had a hinge that made the can protrude too far out into the aisle way, but the ingenious butterfly design resolved our problem and the stainless finish makes it attractive.

The fact that my husband admitted this was the best purchase we've made regarding our dilemma of keeping the beagle out of the trash says it all! So worth the extra cash to keep the dog from eating trash and the kitchen from being trashed by his ability to get into every other trash bin.

Can has a very high quality spring mechanism and slowly folding feature, which allows for items to be placed into the trash can nicely. Because the lid closes slowly, it facilitates all the trash getting into the can and not falling onto the floor accidentally. The design also allows you to not have to touch the can and get unnecessary finger prints on the can. Our family of four usually uses one liner per day, so I am very happy with the size.

I recently purchased the butterfly trash can which fits perfectly in my pantry. My husband already thinks I'm weird, but I keep repeating "I love my new trash can". I also purchased the small retro can for the bathroom, which is perfect because it hides the trash.

I chose this can primarily because it does not jerk backwards against the wall when you step on the pedal to open the lids. The lids open and close smoothly and quietly and the trash can stays in place. I was concerned that the gap between the lids may not seal the trash odor but so far I haven't found that to be a problem. I later saw another Simplehuman slim can with one lid (sku cw1831) in a local store. I tested the opening mechanism of that can and felt that the butterfly lids open more smoothly. I am very happy with my purchase. I feel that this company truly puts in a lot of thoughts in their products. By the way, I ordered it from this web site and got a pack of 20 trash liners as a bonus.

This is my second butterfly trashcan--the original wore out after 5 years. I'm so happy it was still available with the improved top closure. I love the sleek design. If you can't hide your trash can, this is the one for you. Looks great, works perfectly and overall, doesn't really look like a trash can. The size and dimensions help it fit in any out-of-the-way spot. Ours sits at the end of the kitchen island. Will work fine with regular liners, but the Simple Human bags are well worth the extra cost. Perfect for us.

My family has had one of these for years. It always treated us well. When I moved into my apartment, we just used trash bags and for the longest time that worked perfectly fine for us. When we got a cat, though, we realized we needed a trashcan so he wouldn't rip the bags open. I went looking everywhere for a trashcan, but they all required different sized bags than the regular Tall Kitchen Bags that we would always use. I went to Bed Bath n Beyond and was first very disappointed with the fact that all the trash cans required odd sized bags. Where was my trash can that could fit tall kitchen bags without needing to buy specialty ones? I finally asked my mom where she got her trashcan and she told me it was SimpleHuman, the company I so previously didn't like. I found the trash can we had at home and bought it and haven't looked back since! This thing is a beauty, the pedal works marvelously (though it took a few days to "break in"), and it keeps the stench in and prevents the garbage from getting out! I absolutely love this trashcan and know I will have a SimpleHuman trashcan for as long as they remain in business and as long as nothing better comes along (which I doubt will happen).

This trash can fits out available space and requires minimal space for opening which is done easily with the sturdy foot pedal. The open doors provide very good clearance for dish cleaning and it closes quietly! The size is fine for us and we use it at least 10-20 times a day. It has a look and feel of quality. We've gotten nice compliments from visitors and we're glad we made the investment.

This is a great trash can. Actually, this was a second one to place in another location and I have multiple Simple Human products. Unfortunately, the first can that was sent was damaged in transit and UPS didn't even attempt to deliver it - they sent it straight back to Simple Human. However, Simple Human must have thought they didn't need to send a replacement because after 2 weeks of no trash can, I had to call and ask about the product. I have generally been happy with Simply Human service, but must say this was definitely a strike against them for me. If something as simple as offering a small trash can as a token for my inconvenience was done, I would rave about Simple Human. Still not sure I will purchase another Simple Human product after this experience.

This is a great product! Because it requires only half the "head room" of most designs, it works perfectly in the small space available in my kitchen. It is in constant use every day, opens and closes silently and is of sturdy enough construction that I expect it to continue to do so for many years.

This trash can is a good size and shape fits well in an otherwise unused space in our kitchen. I really like the fingerprint proof surface (and wish I had the same stuff on my fridge!!) I mean, its a trash can so I'm not going to gush about it, but it is well made, looks good, and keeps the dog out of the trash. One funny thing is that the lid makes a weird humming sound when it closes. Not loud or disturbing but I wish it wouldn't do that!

This is a wonderfully designed product. It is a nice compact size, which fits well in our hall pantry. It is nice enough to leave out, but we do not have the space. The lids are very quiet when opening and closing. This is the best trash can we have ever owned!

Bought this Model because it fits under the top of our kitchen island.We are very happy with the quality and finish. As advertised, it does not show finger prints.We use it on average of 10 to 15 times daily and have owned it now for about 6 months. It works and functions like the day we received it. The product is great, but we think it is way overpriced. Paying over $100 for a trash can is a bit much, but we purchased it because of the butterfly hinging and that is the kind of trash can our mom wanted. Simplehuman used to have the same kind of trash can with a plastic black top and that is the one we wanted, but they discontinued it for one that costs $50+ more. We wouldn't buy this trash can again and it is mainly due to price.

This is my second Simple Human trashcan and I wouldn't buy anything else. I have a big dog that can open almost any trashcan and this product has kept him out! This can replaced my first can because the hinges that were attached to a plastic lid eventually cracked. Now that the lid is stainless steel, I no longer worry that this top will crack. I also really like that the lid opens from two sides instead of one. That feature allows me the ability to stick the can under a counter and not have the lid smack the counter top. (That was another reason I replaced my old can.) The only issue I have had with this can is both rubber ends to the arms that keep the lid open have fallen off. I would highly recommend this product, it's well worth the money!

The trash can is dog proof, we have had many large dogs and it never fails that they like to get into the trash, finally we found it. My son has this same trash can and when we went to visit we knew it would work, he has a big and medium dog, the big dog use to eat out of the top and the medium one would tip their old can over. No more tips and they can't get the top open. Fabulous, well worth the price to dog owners. It's fancy enough to keep out and not take up closet or cabinet space, with the size options available there should be something for everyone. Perfect! Perfect! Perfect!

I have nothing but good things to say about my simplehuman can, or about simplehuman itself. I originally ordered the smaller butterfly can, but then worried that it might be too small, so I called and changed the order to this 38L can. Turns out the other can had already shipped, but simplehuman canceled that shipment and sent the larger can, at no extra shipping expense. Great customer service. The can itself is all everyone says about it. It's sturdy, resists fingerprints, built like a tank, and the can fits standard 13 gallon bags perfectly snug. Changing the bags is a breeze-- no edges or protrusions for the bag to hang on like other cans, and a clever design tweak lets you lift the inner can an inch or so out-- just enough to remove the bag easily. It is an expensive can compared to others, but everything about the can is well designed and built with good quality materials, so it'll last a long time and look nice and work well. A classic case of you-get-what-you-pay-for. I also have the round 8 gallon can from simplehuman in our utility room, and it stands up to a ton of grime and abuse, but continues to open smoothly. It's obvious this company puts a lot of thought into the design and usability of their products. Don't fall for cheap knockoffs!

We initially hesitated to drop big bucks on a trashcan but we couldn't find anything that came close to comparing to this product. We have a pretty cramped kitchen so the butterfly feature is both elegant and space-efficient. Note: The butterfly doesn't completely hide odors. If you throw food waste in this trashcan, it will start to smell. We opted to use a compost bin on our counter for this purpose so we don't have to take out the trash as often.

While on the "spendy" side, this is an excellently functioning trash can. I first saw it at my son's and HAD to have one, too. The selling factor is the butterfly lid, which I consider a terrific feature. Its shape allows it to take up little space--and the lid allows it to remain within that space without requiring any extra for opening and closing it. It's simply a well-designed item and worth the price to me: I'll probably never need any other. I couldn't be more pleased with it. How fortunate for me that my son purchased one so I could see it in action and know "that's for me!"

W purchased 2 of these to use in our Executive Conference Room Kitchen. The ones we had were scarring the walls when the lids opened. These are perfect. The butterfly lid never touches the wall and they close quietly. THe finish stays clean and bright and they open perfecly each and every time.

The trash can is really fingerprint proof. It is perfect to place next to a wall as it will not scratch the wall at all when you open it. I have had other SH trash cans in the past and this is absolutely a winner! A must have for a smaller kitchen that is used for cooking!

Previously owning two simplehuman butterfly step trash cans, I bought a third and was pleasantly surprised at the subtle refinements from the previous model. Is it possible to be star struck by a trash can? The butterfly design is both clever and unique, and the smudge free stainless finish is some kind of magic. But also love the shape, quiet operation and slow close (kudos to the designer). The removable inner can lets you pack it in and waste less space, while replacing the (hidden) trash bag is a breeze. It's really well made, gets a lot of use and holds up to it all. Makes the kitchen trash less trouble, just wish I had purchased the bigger size. I've had the typical aluminum, oval shaped trash can throughout my life. None of them can stand up to simplehuman's butterfly trash can. I love it's ability to keep the smelliest odors within the confines of its space. My favorite feature is the fact that it closes with such ease and silent precision. As far as durability, I've had my dog attack it a couple times and it's withstood that heave 25lb force. Lastly, it's aesthetic appeal is the best. I get plenty of compliments from my guests. Instead of being simple a trash can, it's more of a piece of kitchen art.

My wife and I used to make homade trash cans in our craft business and we have sold 200 hundred of them, and I did not think I would ever use a metal one until I reveiwed your product. We are amazed at the quality and design of it. It totally amazes our freinds and family. The packaging is awesome, and would be hard to damage in transit excellent packaging for shipping!!! I was shopping in a store that served samples (Harry & Davids) I went over to dispose of trash that was used to serve the samples and saw the butterfly step trash can. I was immediately impressed I kept stepping on it and looking at it and I wanted one so I talked to the manager and ask what kind and where I could buy one. She told me what kind (simplehuman) since I was not local she could not tell me where I could get one so I went on line and ordered one. I have it in my kitchen and it is a joy to put away trash and so easy to take the bags in and out of, I am very pleased with it. It is pricey but worth it!

It opens easily and closes slowly and quietly. The quality is good--nice and sturdy and attractive (especially with stainless steel appliances in kitchen). Fits right next to my kitchen base cabinet and the butterfly lid does not hit the countertop when you open the can. Rarely needs to be wiped off but does so easily. FYI,the bags that are "designed" for it fit inside the insert faster/easier than using "regular" kitchen trash bags. Only negative is that you have to pull the "insert" completely out in order to remove/change the plastic bags, versus just pulling out the bag. But that is a minor thing to me in comparison to all the positives.

I purchased this can for recycling, as I thought the butterfly recycler would not be large enough for my use. It's a great, solid can and looks good in my kitchen, too. It works very well. I really like the slim profile in my small kitchen and the quiet closing of the lid is a real plus (even my mother-in-law was impressed). I have several other simplehuman products (about 10-other trashcans, dish drainers, etc) and I am always pleased with the great quality and looks. In fact, for a stainless steel can, there is no better for the home.

I decided to spend the extra money on the trash canso that fingerprints would not show up. I did not realize that the metal would be so flimsy and it dented in the first week we had it. I would hope for the amount of money I spent on it that it would have been more durable.

Nice trash can that fits under the kitchen counter. Lid and hinges look more durable than my previous SH can with a plastic lid, which sadly broke after 2 years. This one makes a little noise when it closes - not annoying, just weird until I got used to it. Ability to "lock in" the trash bag is a great feature of SH trash cans.

What do I love? The way it opens and closes. Clean, quiet, and it closes sloooooowly. The 'tuck holes' on the inner can are ingenious. My only complaint-- The 'stepper' should be on both sides of the can. Make the can an oval and have it so you can step from either side.

Pricey, yes. But it feels like an investment. And it's so nice to have something that works exactly as it should and looks good while doing it. I particularly love the butterfly style lid.

It may be crazy to think we looked long and hard for a trash can but we did. After finding this particular model it indeed worked perfectly in the very limited space we had for a trash can. I even bought my Mom one and she loves it! It definitely was a great purchase for all of us and we definitely recommend these products to everyone.
